UUID Generator
Generate random UUIDs (version 4) or time-ordered UUIDs (version 7), one or many, in your browser.
- Free
- No sign-up
- Runs in your browser
From 1 to 100.
UUIDs are made in this page with your browser’s secure random number generator. Nothing is sent anywhere.
How to use UUID Generator
How to use this tool:
- Choose version 4 (fully random) or version 7 (starts with the time, so it sorts by creation).
- Enter how many you want, from 1 to 100.
- Choose upper case or lower case, with or without hyphens.
- Press "Generate again" for a new set, then "Copy all".
How they are made. The bits come from your browser's secure random number generator and are laid out as in RFC 9562. Nothing is sent or stored.
Not a secret. A UUID is an identifier, not a password. Do not rely on one being unguessable to protect access.
Examples
A version 4 UUID
Looks like 3b241101-e2bb-4255-8caf-4136c566a962: a 4 starts the third group.
A version 7 UUID
The first 12 hex digits are the time in milliseconds, so later UUIDs sort after earlier ones.
Without hyphens
Untick Hyphens for the 32-character form some databases and APIs expect.
Frequently asked questions
Can two UUIDs be the same?
With 122 random bits, a match is so unlikely that for ordinary use you can treat them as unique.
Which version should I use?
Version 4 for general use. Version 7 for database keys that should sort by time.
Can I use a UUID as a password or access token?
No. Use a dedicated random token and check access separately.
Does version 7 reveal anything?
Yes, roughly when it was created, because the start of it is a timestamp.
