Convention. Interest is compounded quarterly, as Indian banks usually do it: M = R × ((1 + i)^N − 1) ÷ (1 − (1 + i)^(−1/3)), where R is the monthly deposit, i is the annual rate ÷ 400 and N is the number of quarters. Your bank may round or count days differently, so its own figure can differ by a small amount. The result assumes every instalment is paid on time.

Examples

Frequently asked questions

How is RD interest compounded?

Quarterly, at the annual rate divided by 4, which is the usual convention for recurring deposits in Indian banks.

Why is my bank's maturity amount slightly different?

Banks may round at each step or count the exact days. Their figure is the one that counts.

What if I miss an instalment?

Banks usually charge a penalty for late instalments, which reduces the maturity amount. This calculator assumes all instalments are paid on time.

Is the interest taxable?

It can be. Tax is not included here, and the rules change, so check the current rules.
