How to use Unit Converter

How to use this converter:

  • Choose what you are measuring: length, weight, temperature, area, volume or speed.
  • Enter the value.
  • Pick the unit you are converting from and the unit you want.
  • Read the answer at the top. The same value is shown in every other unit below it.

How it works. Each unit is stored as its exact size in a base unit (metre, kilogram, square metre, litre or metre per second), so any pair converts in two steps. Temperature also needs an offset: °F = °C × 9 ÷ 5 + 32 and K = °C + 273.15. Values are shown to seven significant digits.

Not included. Local land units such as the bigha differ from state to state, so they are left out. Use square feet, square metres or acres for property.

Examples

  • 1 inch in millimetres

    Exactly 25.4 mm.

  • 98.6 °F in Celsius

    37 °C, and 310.15 K.

  • 1 acre in square feet and square metres

43,560 square feet, or 4,046.86 square metres.

Frequently asked questions

Is the conversion exact?

The factors are the exact definitions where one exists, such as 1 inch = 25.4 mm and 1 pound = 0.45359237 kg. Results are shown to seven significant digits.

Why are there two gallons?

The US gallon is 3.785 litres and the imperial (UK) gallon is 4.546 litres. Both are listed by name, so pick the one your source uses.

Why is there no bigha or guntha?

Their size changes from state to state, so no single number is right. Use square feet, square metres or acres for land.

Can I convert a negative temperature?

Yes, down to absolute zero (-273.15 °C). Other measures cannot be negative.
