How to use EXIF Data Remover

How to use this tool:

  • Choose one or more pictures (JPG, PNG or WebP, up to 20).
  • See what was found in each: camera and shot details, a GPS location, XMP, IPTC, comments, text notes.
  • Download the cleaned copy of each. The file name ends in -clean.

How it works. The hidden segments are cut out of the file and the picture data is left byte for byte as it was, so there is no re-compression and no loss of quality. The colour profile of a JPG is kept.

Keep photos upright. JPG photos taken sideways store a rotation note. With this option on, only that note is kept (nothing about the camera, time or place), so the photo does not open on its side.

Not covered. Anything visible in the picture, and the file name.

Examples

  • A phone photo

Shows the phone model, the date and time, and whether a GPS location was stored. The cleaned copy has none of them.

  • A PNG with notes

Text notes and the last-changed time are removed.

  • A photo with nothing hidden

The tool says no hidden data was found.

Frequently asked questions

Does cleaning reduce the quality?

No. The picture data is copied unchanged, so there is no second compression.

Why does it keep an orientation note?

So a photo taken sideways still opens upright. Untick the option to remove even that.

Does it remove what I can see in the photo?

No. A street sign or a face stays. Only hidden file data is removed.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. They are cleaned in your browser.
