BMW Motorrad unveiled the M 1000 RS at the EICMA motorcycle show in Milan, reported on 3 November 2026. It uses the 999cc inline-four from the M 1000 RR superbike, makes 218hp, and weighs 196kg ready to ride, according to Autocar India and motorcycles.news. Production is limited to 1,000 units worldwide, the German price is 40,000 euros including VAT, and dealer deliveries start in March 2027. This article is current as of 3 November 2026.

The acceleration and top-speed numbers are manufacturer claims, not independent measurements.
Chassis and brakes
According to motorcycles.news, the RS has an aluminium bridge frame that uses the engine as a load-bearing part, a 45mm upside-down fork and an aluminium swingarm with a central shock. Suspension is electronically controlled, with Dynamic Damping Control. The front brakes are radial four-piston calipers on two 320mm discs, and the rear has a 220mm disc. ABS Pro and traction control are standard.
Carbon wheels and a titanium exhaust come as standard, and the bike has small carbon winglets. Autocar India and motorcycles.news both list these items.
Electronics and equipment
- 6.5-inch TFT display
- Riding modes, adjustable traction control and cruise control
- Keyless ride and tyre pressure monitoring
- Heated grips (listed by motorcycles.news)
- Options include a low screen, handlebar risers, alternative seats and M Performance Parts such as a data logger with a GPS lap trigger
Price and availability
Motorcycles.news gives the price as 40,000 euros including VAT in Germany and 36,220 pounds in the UK. Autocar India reports the German price and converts it to about Rs 42.36 lakh, but that is a currency conversion, not an Indian price. Neither source gives an Indian price or Indian launch plan, and motorcycles.news says prices for other markets have not been announced.
Deliveries through BMW Motorrad dealers begin in March 2027, and only 1,000 units will be built.
How it compares with the M 1000 R
The RS sits beside the M 1000 R naked motorcycle, which uses a related engine. The two sources give different power figures for the M 1000 R: Autocar India says 205hp at 13,000rpm, while motorcycles.news says 210hp at 13,750rpm. Both agree that the RS's 218hp is the higher output. Torque is about the same, 113Nm for the RS and about 112 to 113Nm for the R according to the two sources.
Motorcycles.news lists the RS at 196kg against 199kg for the M 1000 R, and a seat height of 850mm, 20mm higher than the R's 830mm. It adds that the RS name refers to the German word Rennsport, meaning racing, not the meaning used on the R 1300 RS.
What is still unknown
BMW has not announced an Indian price or an Indian availability date in the reports read for this article. Prices in other countries are also not yet public. Anyone interested should wait for BMW Motorrad India's own announcement.
Terms used in this article
EICMA is the international motorcycle exhibition held every year in Milan, Italy, where makers often show new models before they reach showrooms. A "claimed" figure is one the maker states; it has not been measured by an independent tester. A "kerb weight" or "ready to ride" weight normally includes fluids and a full fuel tank, but the exact definition differs between makers, which is one reason weight figures from different companies cannot always be compared directly.
Horsepower figures also come in different units. Metric horsepower (PS) and mechanical horsepower (hp or bhp) differ by about 1.4 per cent, and kilowatts are a third way of stating the same power. BMW's 218hp is given alongside 160kW, which is consistent with the usual conversion. Where two outlets quote slightly different numbers for the same bike, the unit is often the reason, but the sources should be read before assuming so.
What the numbers tell you, and what they do not
The published figures describe the bike as BMW built it for the European market. They do not say how the motorcycle behaves on a road or track, because nobody outside the company has ridden it in the reports used here. This article therefore compares only numbers: the RS makes more power than the M 1000 R and weighs less, according to motorcycles.news, and it is limited to 1,000 units.
